Dan Ohms of the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department keeps the flames burning for a change as he prepares pork chop sandwiches for the Mallardfest crowd.

Jane Kumor of Elizabeth has the body language of classic rock down pat as she sings "Warm California Sun" with the classic rock band "The Legends" at Mallardfest.

Bill Evans of Hanover took first place in the duck-calling contest at Mallardfest. After finessing the standard duck calls, Evans finished his performance with a lively rendition of "Be Kind to Your Web-footed Friends." Evans is a member of Ducks Unlimited.

Joe Stokley takes aim and lets fly at the Mallardfest dunk tank.

Never one to duck his duties, Leo the Mallard served as the official greeter at Hanover’s 25th annual Mallardfest celebration last Saturday, Sept. 21, in White Park. Leo’s smaller friend is Haley Dunham. The all-day event started with a parade on Main Street and included games, food, music and family fun.

Jeremiah Sullivan of Oak Forest takes the Apple River Golf challenge at Hanover’s Mallardfest. From the Mallardfest site in White Park, Sullivan and other contestants hit approach shots about 80 yards across the Apple River and onto a duck-shaped green on the other side. One of Sullivan’s chip shots landed just seven feet from the pin.
