Members of the Hanover American Legion opened up the 2002 Hanover Days Parade shortly after 6 p.m. on July 3.

Above, from left, Dave Winter, Kelly Altfillisch, and Bob Patterson dish out chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream at White Park before the 7 p.m. canoe race. Union Bank donated ice cream.

As parade time grew near, Hanover residents and visitors lined up along Highway 84 outside Big Ray's. Many people cooked out or grabbed food from groups or families selling along the highway.

The Hanover Stampin’ Divas created one of the parade’s most fanciful entries. The stamp club consists of Naomi Stines, Teresa Schaible, Karen Harkness, Janet Fisher, and Bridget Sturm.

Vince and Lucille Penry of Hanover listen attentively to their granddaughter Julie Coe at the American Legion Beef Roast at the Hanover V.F.W. Hall on July 3. "We try to make every dinner," said Lucille.

Nick Green and Danny LaFrancis, front, paddle out from the starting line of the Apple River canoe race. Behind them, Dominic Defilppo and Gary Holland take the lead. Warwick Stevenson and Allen Trebian placed first in the men's division; Carrie Teberg and Beth Hughes won the women's division.
